Peat project to start

A GROUNDBREAKING project to restore over 190 hectares of degraded peatland kicks off at the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve in Langholm next week.

Described as ‘vital work’, it is being funded by Scottish Power.

The reserve team say it marks a major step toward tackling climate change and restoring biodiversity.

They thanked the Crichton Carbon Centre for their expertise and dedication throughout this journey.

The groundwork will involve blocking over 54 km of artificial moorland drains and restoring exposed peat to prevent erosion and create thriving habitats for rare wildlife.

A Tarras spokesperson said: “This is nature recovery in action — and we’re proud to be part of it.”
