Pensioner jailed for sex abuse

AN elderly man who abused two girls nearly 40 years ago has been placed on the sex offenders' register for ten years.

In court on Wednesday, Ralston Graham, 72, of Holmwood Crescent, Langholm, was also jailed for 12 months.
He was found guilty by a jury on a majority decision at the end of a six-day trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court.
Throughout the trial he had maintained a plea of not guilty to using lewd and indecent behaviour on two occasions towards one girl in Langholm between 1976 and 1979 when she was aged between nine and 12.
He had also denied acting similarly towards another girl when she was aged between four and seven on various occasions between 1988 and 1990.
He was found not guilty by a majority of two further charges of indecent behaviour, on one occasion towards a girl aged between 10 and 12 in a parked car between 1971 and 1972 and also in Langholm towards a girl under 16 on an occasion between 1996 or 1997.
