A GARLIESTON pensioner has gone viral overnight after his YouTube channel was shared by a popular TikTok account.
For two years Pat McErlean has been posting videos about his camping trips on his YouTube channel Wander with Mac, with limited success.
During his short vlog-style videos the 74-year-old takes viewers with him and his dog Morag on tours of the country near his home.
But overnight Pat has gone from having zero subscribers to over 400,000 after it was promoted by musician Kristian Keenan on TikTok.
Keenan wanted to promote a channel with ‘little to no views’ on YouTube. His video about Pat has now been viewed more than 12 million times.
Pat has now set up his own TikTok account, also called Wander with Mac. It already has more subscribers than the creator who promoted him, in a statement recently posted on his YouTube channel, Pat said: “Thanks to my friends as of just now I have 417K subscribers on my Youtube channel. I couldn’t have wished for a better outcome for my hobby, the joy that the channel has given me is unbelievable; you have given me the will to go on and have many more adventures.”
