A PETITION to grant protected status to wild goats roaming the Langholm moor has been signed by more than 1200 people.
Kenneth Moffatt is calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to help ensure the survival of primitive goat species.
It comes after Oxygen Conservation, who own just under 12,000 acres of land on the moor near the Muckle Toon, have already culled some of the male goats roaming the site.
The slaughter followed a survey which found the population was rapidly increasing and negatively impacting upon conservation proposals.
There has been widespread opposition to the culling, from locals and beyond. This included a separate petition with almost 3000 signatures and politicians urging the private company to pursue an alternative course of action.
Kenneth’s petition has been lodged with the Scottish Parliament.
