Phones ring off the hook at roofing firm

A ROOFING boss and his team are flat out helping customers this week with emergency repairs.

Jamie Crosbie, of JC Roofing in Heathhall, said over the weekend they accepted 76 enquiries, from Moffat to Borgue.

He said: “It’s been an extremely busy weekend trying to accommodate as many people as we can. We are trying to prioritise those most at risk first and we haven’t forgotten about anyone.

“I started in business myself in 2018 and have never seen the likes of it, the phone has been non-stop and it can be very stressful. I have had to delay some other ongoing work to try help and accommodate these repairs as some people are panicking and I hate to think we couldn’t try help people.

“I would love to help everyone of course but it’s simply not possible and now we’re having to unfortunately start turning people down.”

Describing the types of callouts, Jamie said it has been ridges, slates and tiles blowing off roofs, a big sandstone chimney collapsing onto a roof, a flat roof blew off letting water into a young family’s home, and another big lead flat roof blew off too.

The firm worked until dark on Saturday and Sunday to try and keep everyone safe and watertight.

“Some are a lot more important than others in terms of public safety but you don’t know the true extent of the repair until you attend,” Jamie added.

“We are grateful to Dumfries and Galloway Council for allowing us to push through some street works permits quickly to help make some of these repairs, especially on busy public streets.

“It’s has been very challenging both mentally and physically and I am also very grateful to the lads who work for me for putting aside their weekend to come out and help lighten the load.”
