The Solway Marine Information, Learning and Environment Project (SMILE) has launched the new Solway Photo Series.
It forms part of their Solway Review, which will provide updated data and information on the biological, physical and socio-economic context for the Solway Firth.
It was first published in 1996 and an online update is being prepared looking at the themes of ‘clean and safe’, ‘healthy and biologically diverse’, ‘physical’, and ‘productive. These fit into the Scottish Government’s vision for ‘clean, healthy, safe, productive, biologically diverse marine and coastal environments, managed to meet the long-term needs of people and nature’.
And the photo section is described as ‘a new exciting element’ as it will highlight how the public sees the Solway Firth and how they enjoy it, its beauty, and its issues.
Anyone wishing to take part is advised to use the review chapters for inspiration for images, or the themes of marine litter, flooding, shipping and sea fisheries, or they can just show how they enjoy the Firth, from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Cairnryan in Dumfries and Galloway.
Project officer Georgina Reid said: “We launched the Photo Series at the beginning of February and I am truly thrilled with the interest and submissions we have already received.
“This element of the Review will shine a light on how unique and special the Solway Firth is in so many ways. We would really love to see lots of different aspects of the Solway.”
