Plane Club are Record Breakers

HISTORY has been made in Dumfries as the local model plane club took part in a nationwide world record event.

The Dumfries Model Flying Club is one of many clubs affiliated with the British Model Flying Association (BMFA), which is celebrating its centenary.

As part of the milestone celebrations it was decided to try and set a new world record for the number of model aircrafts flying simultaneously all over the UK at precisely noon on Sunday May 15.

And members from Dumfries took part in the event, despite warnings of strong winds and thunderstorms.

While there was heavy rain during the morning, it stopped just in time and calm winds allowed the six present to go ahead. Strict verification procedures were followed and duly registered with the BMFA who have acknowledged the achievement.

As part of the BMFA centenary celebrations, the club is offering a free trial flight for anyone who would like to have a go at flying a radio-controlled model aircraft using dual-control transmitters.

Free trial flights must be booked in advance and can be arranged by contacting the club on its website at dmfc.org.uk.
