AN amateur dramatics group near Glasgow is preparing to stage The Women of Lockerbie play this autumn.
And they are extending an invitation to any of the original Lockerbie ‘laundry ladies’ to attend one of the performances.
They were the local women who helped sort, clean and return the clothing and possessions belonging to the victims of the 1988 Pan Am bombing.
David Pearson is the spokesperson for Giffnock Theatre Players and he said: “We present three plays a year in Eastwood Park Theatre. This October we are presenting The Women Of Lockerbie, a powerful play by US writer Deborah Brevoort which pays tribute to the “Laundry Ladies” in the aftermath of the Lockerbie air disaster. It explores their relationship with the relatives and the obstacles placed by the US Government.
“Would any of the laundry ladies who are still around be interested in coming to see the production? The south side of Glasgow is a long way to come for a night at the theatre but they’d be most welcome and indeed it would be a privilege for myself and the club to meet them.”
It runs from October 23-26 and David can be contacted via email at [email protected]
