Police Scotland are seeking witnesses to what they describe as a ‘suspicious fire’ at Crossmichael involving a Skoda Fabia.
At about 11.10 pm on Friday, police received a number of calls regarding a ‘loud bang’ being heard on Main Street in the village.
On examination it was found that the car was well ablaze.
The car was extensively damaged as a result and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
PC Lisa Ritchie from Police Scotland said: “We want to hear from anyone who may have been in the Main Street area around 11.10 pm on Friday night.
“In particular, we want to trace the driver of a small silver coloured car, perhaps a Renault Clio, which was seen driving past the scene when the car was on fire.”
PC Ritchie added: “We also want to trace a male person who was seen near the car when it went on fire and again leaving afterwards.
“This person appears to have been engulfed in flames as he left the scene.”
