Police probe 'unusual' theft of car bonnets

COUNCIL pool cars were among vehicles to have lights, bumpers and even bonnets stripped from them while parked overnight in Dumfries this week.

Two vehicles used by Dumfries and Galloway Council employees were among several in the town targeted in what police are describing as an ‘unusual’ crime.
In a statement after the raids which took place at some point between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, a Police Scotland spokesman said: “In this unusual crime for Dumfries and Galloway, the person or persons responsible have stolen the bonnet, bumper and lights from two silver Vauxhall Corsas parked within Woodbank education department on Edinburgh Road in Dumfries.
“A further theft of a bonnet, bumper and light cluster from a grey Vauxhall Corsa that was parked within the Solway Gate carpark on Annan Road in the town has also been reported.”
Meanwhile, in a third incident vehicle parts for a BMW were stolen from Crossflags on Annan Road.
Responding to the crime, a statement from Dumfries and Galloway Council said: “Two council pool cars were damaged at Woodbank Offices during the night of Wednesday and Thursday.
“We are working with Police Scotland in relation to this matter.”
It added: “There is not yet any indication of the cost to repair or replace parts.”
Police are appealing for anyone who may seen anything suspicious during the early hours of yesterday to get in touch through the 101 number.
