Police station future plans revealed

MOFFAT residents are being invited to have their say about the future of the town’s police station at an open day later this month.

The former police station is currently being run as community shop by the Moffat Town Hall Redevelopment Trust, who are looking to take full ownership of the building via a community asset transfer from Police Scotland.

If successful, the trust would continue to use the station as the community shop but would also look to develop a new laundry and a tourist information centre within the building, which will require some reconfiguration of the internal layout.

Graham Black, chair of Moffat Town Hall Redevelopment Trust, is excited to be bringing the plans to the community at the open day on Sunday October 20 and said: “This is a really exciting project for the town. At the moment we lease the police building but we hope to own it so we have guaranteed long-term use.

“Development of the building to include a laundry facility, for Town Hall use, and the tourist centre would be excellent facilities for Moffat.

“We are not assuming anything and we have to consult and ensure we have sufficient local support. We have a survey of people’s views going on at the moment. But we are hopeful we have that support.”
