THE team at an animal well-being service is taking on a variety of fundraising challenges in the hope of saving a beloved therapy pony. Mocha, a 12-year-old Welsh D, needs life-saving surgery after being diagnosed with a tumour last week. So, Hazel Hay, staff and volunteers at Phoenix Life skills and Rescue Centre near Gatehouse of Fleet, where she has been for two years, are putting their heads together with the aim of raising £3000 for her operation. This week Hazel said: “Mocha is one of the sweetest, kindest and most gentle little pony who brings so much joy and smiles to all our young people’s faces. “Over the next few weeks we are planning to hold a number of fundraisers, it would mean the world to all of the team if we can raise enough to save her. “We’re planning a bingo night, a car boot and also some of the men involved with Phoenix have offered to get waxed.” In addition, they have been collecting donations through their Go Fund Me page and so far have managed to raise £1270. Their efforts are set to continue in the coming days with a bake sale planned for Friday at Creetown Bowling Club from 12 pm.

Meanwhile on Saturday, Sam Hay, Ryan Hannah and Lucas Swalwell will undergo a sponsored leg wax at Auchenlarie Sports Bar from 7.30 pm onwards with the proceeds going to Mocha’s fund. Hazel added: “We have genuinely been so touched by everyone for all the kind comments and messages that we have received. Thank you all so much, I don’t have the words to show our appreciation. “Huge thank you to Sam Hay, Ryan Hannah, Lucas Swalwell who have very kindly offered to take part in a sponsored leg wax to help raise funds for Phoenix Life skills and Rescue Centre to help get Mocha her surgery that she needs.” To donate to the fundraiser visit gofundme.com and search ‘Help save Mocha’.
