Last month the Lockerbie Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre Trust started an online funding appeal via website Go Fund Me asking locals to donate money to help the town’s pool dream come true.
However from February 8 to March 8 this year only £15 was donated by just two residents.
The group’s secretary Jen McLeod is hopeful that locals will start backing the fund soon.
She said: “It is still early days for the Go Fund Me appeal and we will continue to highlight this and push as much as possible.
“Any funds are gratefully received, but we have set a target to raise £50,000 and show that the community agree there is a need for this type of facility.”
Meanwhile the trust recently lost two members — vice chairman Malcolm Bourner and trustee Annandale North Councillor Stephen Thompson.
Thanking them for their support, Jen said: “Malcolm has been involved with the swimming pool for many years and has been instrumental in attending internal and external meetings and pushing the project forward to achieving our current planning approval.
“Obviously we are saddened to lose Malcolm and Stephen on our board of trustees but wish them well in their future ventures.”
The trust are now appealing for new members and encouraging residents from Lockerbie, Moffat, Lochmaben and surrounding areas to get more involved by joining the committee, attending meetings and supporting fundraisers.
Jen said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their hard work this past year and helping us achieve the milestone of planning permission – but the hard work will continue.
“We all need to pull together to complete such a wonderful facility for ourselves as a community and for our families.”
The group are also hosting a comedy night next Friday at Lockerbie Town Hall
■ The trust meet the first Wednesday of every month at LockerbieTown Hall at 7.30 pm. For more info contact Jen on [email protected] or on 01576 205709.
