Poor show for police session

ONLY two of Upper Annandale’s ten community councils attended the most recent meeting with police officers.

It was revealed at an informal community meeting in Moffat on Tuesday, that the most recent online meeting between police officers and Upper Annandale’s community councils was attended by representatives from two of the ten groups – Moffat and Wamphray.

Police began conducting online meetings due to a fall in staffing levels, but if necessary an officer will attend a monthly community council.

Moffat and District Community Council chair Liam O’ Neill said that he was ‘disappointed’ by the lack of attendance, commenting: “There’s now a monthly meeting between the police and community councils online, and I was very disappointed because there was only myself and a representative from Wamphray Community Council there, out of ten community councils who were invited to the meeting and I was very disappointed.”

In response, PC Glendinning, who attended Tuesday’s meeting in-person, said: “There has been varied attendance at the online community council meetings throughout the different wards, some have had 100 per cent records and some have been very poorly attended.

“Going forward community councils will get the full report earlier in the month so they will be sent within the first few days of the month by your local community officer and anything that arises from them will be discussed at the monthly online meeting.”
