Finlay Carson, MSP for Galloway and West Dumfries, paid tribute to the remarkable services being provided by general practices.
Speaking during a debate at Holyrood on health and social care, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP recognised their enormous contribution and commitment.
He said: “I would like to pass on my heartfelt thanks to GPs in Dumfries and Galloway for all their hard work throughout.
“Indeed they are seeing more patients face to face than pre-covid and for that I say a big thank-you. General practice is the frontline of our NHS services and their role should never be under-estimated.”
And he called on the Scottish Government to better support and resource practices, adding: “Nicola Sturgeon has failed to adequately resource general practices given she was warned about GP shortages as far back as 2008.
“It is this failure when she was at the helm of the NHS that is now coming back to haunt her and the SNP.”
