INVESTIGATION works for the Whitesands Project to examine the ground conditions of the site where the main flood defences are to be situated is largely concluded.
The ground investigation works started in June and Dumfries and Galloway Council say on-site works now are “substantially complete”.
A council spokesman added: “All bore holes, trial pits and observation trenches are complete. The project team is preparing to commence off-site sample analysis of the information gathered during the site works.
“Although demobilisation of fences and large equipment has started, the public may continue to see some workers accessing the data collection equipment installed.”
The ground investigations work has involved various techniques to gather information about the soil, rock, groundwater, and other geological features present in the area, providing updated results on the ground conditions, to complement and enhance information already obtained by the council, which is needed to inform the next stage of detailed design over the next year.
Although disruption has been kept to a minimum, the council say they wish to thank the community for their patience during the site works.
