A POIGNANT service was held in Stranraer last Friday to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Princess Victoria ferry tragedy.
The service at the memorial in Agnew Park honoured the victims on both sides of the Irish Sea.
Lord Lieutenant of Wigtownshire Aileen Brewis laid the first wreath to remember the 138 souls lost in the tragedy.
The service was well attended by the relative of the passengers and crew, the Merchant Navy Association, Stena Line, P&O Ferries, Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, Royal British Legion Association, The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, RNLI Portpatrick, RNLI Stranraer, Stranraer Coastguard, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Stranraer and District Local History Trust, the Princess Victoria memorial group, Stranraer Community Council, Stranraer Academy, the Millennium Centre, Dumfries and Galloway Council and Stranraer Parish Church.
