Project aims to list Porridge workers

A NEW project is underway at the Devil’s Porridge Museum.

Staff, researchers and volunteers at the Eastriggs attraction are busy working on ‘The Miracle Workers Research Project’, a major undertaking that is aiming to compile a complete list of the 30,000 workers of Gretna’s HM Factory.

An official register of staff who served at the mammoth munitions plant does not currently exist, but now the museum, with the help of Dumfries and Galloway Coastal Communities Fund, is setting out to assemble a record of as many names and accounts of workers as is possible.

A free launch event is set to be held online next month, where attendees can find out more about the research conducted so far, how it’s been carried out, broader goals of the project — and how schools, universities and the public can contribute and help add names to the list.

Fund out more by searching ‘The Miracle Workers Research Project Launch’ at www.eventbrite.co.uk.
