Pump track discussions ongoing

IT’S going to be a race to finish Moffat’s new pump track before its Easter deadline.

The joint venture between Dumfries and Galloway Council and Moffat and District Community Council (MDCC) would see a 165 metre BMX and mountain biking course created in Hope Johnstone Park.

It would be suitable for young people and beginners and also designed to help users learn good bike control, through narrow-looped paths with a series of undulating and banked curves.

But the contract to build the track is yet to be awarded by Dumfries and Galloway Council and the project’s Easter deadline is looming. Giving an update on Tuesday night, MDCC chair Liam O’Neill said: “I can confirm that I have been in discussions in relation to pump track. The contract hasn’t been let yet but the tenders have been received, assessed and a preferred contractor has been identified, but there’s confirmation needed about one part of the grant to make up the total cost – I was in a discussion about that this morning.

“So hopefully this will be sorted out quickly, the contract will be let and it’ll be up and running before Easter.”
