ALL funding is now in place for Moffat’s pump track with completion scheduled for gala day.
The joint venture between Dumfries and Galloway Council and Moffat and District Community Council will see a 165 metre BMX and mountain biking course created in Hope Johnstone Park.
It will be suitable for young people and beginners and also designed to help users learn good bike control, through narrow-looped paths with a series of undulating and banked curves.
Annandale North Cllr Stephen Thomson revealed last week that the council have completed the procurement process and have awarded the contract, with work scheduled to start in May, he said: “The council have completed the procurement process, awarded the contract for the build, and met with the contractor this morning [Thursday March 13].
“The contractor for the construction and delivery of Moffat Pump Track is ‘Back on Track Mountain Bike Solutions Ltd’, based in Cardiff.
“The construction start date is Tuesday May 6, subject to external factors. There will be a six week build programme.
“There will be a further three-week programme of letting the site settle, it will remain fenced off, and will culminate with line painting of the track. The track will not be usable until the fencing is removed, and all work is complete.
“The council has asked the contractor to try and ensure the pump track is built and completed prior to Moffat Gala Day on Saturday July 19, so the new facility can be included and fully used.”
