Purse theft warning

SHOPPERS are being warned to be on their guard after two thefts in Dumfries supermarkets.

Police are investigating two incidents of purse thefts which on Monday afternoon.

At about 2.30 pm, whilst in Morrisons, a 76-year-old woman had her purse containing cash and bank cards taken.

And in a second incident a short time later, a 60-year-old woman shopping in the Tesco store at Cuckoo Bridge had her purse stolen, which contained cash and bank cards.

On both occasions a man described as white, of a heavy build, with dark receding hair and wearing a light grey jumper, blue jeans and black boots was seen near to the victims.

Constable Richard Davidson said: “We are reviewing CCTV from both stores and have identified the described man as being near to both the victims just prior to the thefts.

“It might be that this man was accompanied by a female at this time.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in either store on Monday afternoon to get in touch if they saw anything suspicious.”

Callers can contact police on the 101 number and should quote PDG 0021680118.
