Quarry gunshots spark probe

SOUNDS of gunshots near Dalbeattie have sparked a police enquiry.

Police Scotland officers are investigating the source of a number of shots which were heard in the area of the quarry at the Town Wood in the town sometime about 7 pm on Friday.
At that time a woman heard around eight shots coming from the area around the quarry.
Looking towards the quarry, she saw a young white male first raise his head and then duck down out of sight in the area of the quarry.
He is described as being 14 to 16 years old, with dark brown hair and wearing a grey hooded top.
PC Colin McMillan at Dalbeattie said: “We attended the area of the quarry after the report of shots and heard further shots. After a search no-one was traced.
“It is unknown at this time as to whether the shots may have come from a bird scarer or an actual weapon.
“Anyone who can help resolve the source of these shots should call us at Dalbeattie on the 101 number.”
