A YOUNG Dumfries musician is making waves as he prepares to release a full rap EP in September at the age of only 14.
Joseph Cursare started making music four years ago, firstly producing EDM and house beats on his phone as a hobby.
After two years, he realised that he wanted to become a professional artist and began to write songs too.
And in the last two years, the teen rapper has distributed his music across streaming services and worked with four different professional producers.
Mandumé, Cloubee, ProdbyJxn and TammyBeats have collaborated with Joseph on his new EP, after he got in touch with them directly.
Although his target audience for his songs is the 13-18 group, Joseph’s Spotify analytics indicate that even those aged 65 and over listen to his songs.
So far, Joseph has published three full songs, Desperados, Heroes and Thorp Park and his new project, titled ‘The Out Of Place EP’, is scheduled to be released this year.
He said: “I’ve been making music for a little under four years. I went through a few genres and different names along the way, until I decided to stick to chill rap with hints of house beats, and finally settled on the name Joseph Cursare.
“When I first started my music, Hobo Records was a fictional music label that was a huge part of my musical persona. I keep using it to remind me of the entire musical journey that I’ve been through so far.
“I’ve probably written around 32 songs over two years of writing lyrics, however only three of them, alongside some deleted songs, saw the light of day.
“I write the lyrics, record and film videos on my own, and I’ve been working with four different producers on my upcoming EP.
“Two of the producers were met in the space of UK rap, I started to hear more of their beats and wanted to work with them so I got in touch and made it happen. The other two producers I chose for some beats to fit in with the EP.
“Although when you listen to my songs they sound almost comical with the lyrics that sound like they have no meaning, all of the songs on my EP have a hidden, deep-rooted meaning that you would have to listen to hundreds of times to figure out.
“I chose the name ‘Out of Place’ mostly because the songs seem out of place in the genre of rap.
“When you hear the word rap, you probably think of silly kids dreaming about being the next Drake, but I believe I’ve found a small niche with only a few other artists, so I thought that this would be the best opportunity to make something big.”
Joseph has a YouTube channel, and you can find him on Spotify and Soundcloud. You can also pre-save the Out of Place EP here.
