Region is low value

A STUDY analysing who gets the most in return for their Council Tax has ranked Dumfries and Galloway 21st out of 32 council areas in Scotland.

Experts at money.co.uk looked into different council services and Dumfries and Galloway received a final score of three out of ten.

Road maintenance in the region was found to be the second worst in the country, with over 12 per cent of roads locally needing repairs. However, household recycling rates were relatively good with just over 51 per cent of waste being recycled. Crime rates were also analysed and with 411 crimes per 10,000 people, they were on the higher side.

‘Winners’ were the Orkney Islands who achieved a final value score of 7.65 out of 10, their roads even scored a perfect 10/10. Meanwhile, the worst council area was found to be Clackmannanshire.
