Region proclaims the new King

PROCLAMATIONS of the new monarch were heard across the region yesterday.

They were read out in official ceremonies in Stranraer, Kirkcudbright and Dumfries at 12.45 pm exactly by councillors and dignitaries.

Wreaths were also laid in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

At Stranraer, Aileen Brewis, Lord-Lieutenant for Wigtown, joined council convener and co-leader Councillor Stephen Thompson at the War Memorial at the Sheriff Court on Lewis Street.

In Kirkcudbright, Lord-Lieutenant for The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright Matthew St Clair, The Lord Sinclair, and council chief executive Dr Dawn Roberts led proceedings at the War Memorial on Castle Street.

Finally, in Dumfries, Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries Fiona Armstrong, along with council deputy convener and co-leader Councillor Linda Dorward and Provost of Dumfries Councillor Tracey Little, met at the Maxwelltown War Memorial, at Rotchell Road/New Abbey Road.

Flags have now been returned to half-mast on council buildings across the region until after the funeral of Her Majesty The Queen next week.
