Region to celebrate young gala royalty

ALL the young people who are being crowned as part of the galas and Riding of the Marches in Dumfries and Galloway are to be invited to a special tea party.

Dumfries and Galloway Council is to host a unique event on September 23 to celebrate the youngsters’ roles. There will be an afternoon tea and a display of photographs of their crownings to mark their contribution to this national coronation year.

Councillor Malcolm Johnstone said: “Dumfries and Galloway has wonderful local galas and Riding of the Marches events during the summer months that include the crowning of a queen or prince.

“We are delighted to bring all the ‘royalty’ together as it is another way we can help promote great community spirit and pride.”

Stuart Thompson MBE, who came up with the idea, said: “I’m delighted that Dumfries and Galloway Council has taken up my idea for this event because it will not only showcase the many great galas and Ridings that take place in the villages and towns of our region, but coming together and getting a group photograph with local dignitaries will give these young local people even more happy memories that will last their lifetimes.”
