Billy Duncan, who died in November 2019, aged 92, was an active member of the Moffat branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland and past chairman and president.
And members finally got the chance to hold a commemorative event for him last Saturday.
They gathered in the sunshine at the war memorial for the celebration.
Branch secretary Mary Bond said: “This event was to celebrate the life of our previous president Billy Duncan, who had worked so hard for the Moffat branch and the town of Moffat.”
Chairman Edward Cole welcomed Billy’s wife Audray and family, as well as the members present. He invited Martyn Hawthorn, the Legion’s national chairman who had known Billy for many years, to talk about the man himself.
The event was then handed over to Rev Elsie Macrae to dedicate a bench in Billy’s name, for the use of the community.
Audray’s family and members were then invited to St Andrew’s Church for refreshments.
Mrs Bond said: “The whole event was enjoyed by all and it is hoped that branch meetings will be able to recommence.”
