A FORMER reporter at the Annandale Herald and Moffat News has passed away at the age of just 56.
Jane Anderson worked at the paper in the late 1980s, through to the early 2000s, becoming chief reporter in that time.
Her main patch covered Lockerbie, Lochmaben and Moffat and she was a champion of the mid and upper Annandale area and always keen to ensure they were well covered.
She could be found at her desk above Lockerbie’s Annandale Herald newsagents on a Monday and Tuesday and made a point of visiting Moffat on a weekly basis too, dropping into the shops, hairdressers, cafes, police station and library while there.
Jane also attended many a community council meeting, Christmas festivities and galas and was well known to residents in the area.
She particularly enjoyed getting to grips with grassroots news, local history pieces and profiling key personalities. Sport, however, was not her cup of tea!
Current Annandale Herald and Moffat News editor Fiona Reid worked with her and has paid tribute, saying: “Jane was my line manager when I started as a young reporter and she took me under her wing, teaching me all about the area and who and what I needed to know.
“She loved reporting and writing and enjoyed getting out and chatting to people, so it was the perfect job for her.
“I also fondly remember her unique laugh and her love for both cake and Status Quo, of whom she was a mega fan.”
After leaving the newspaper following the birth of her daughter, Jane worked as a press officer for David Mundell MP, and then went to the Food Train.
Most recently, she was part of the team at the Shax charity in Dumfries.
Jane was born and raised in Eaglesfield but had settled in Dumfries.
She leaves her daughter Caitlin and partner Ian.
