THIRTEEN organ donation referrals were made in Dumfries and Galloway in the last year.
The figure was given to health officials at this month’s NHS board meeting.
They also heard that 50.3 per cent of the region’s population
have actively opted into the organ donation register, which is in keeping with the rest of Scotland.
Specialist nurse Anthony McGeown and emergency medicine consultant Dr Magnus Rodrigues presented the NHS Dumfries and Galloway Organ Donation Annual Report 2022-2023.
They told bosses that although there is no specialist organ donation nurse in the region, there are ‘really good links’ with the team at Glasgow.
Plans were also revealed for a 12 month action plan to increase organ donations, both in the community and also within the hospital.
There was no data on how many people locally have received a transplant.
