Retired minister in court

A RETIRED Church of Scotland minister has appeared in court for the second time in two months on a charge of driving with more than the permitted drink limit in his breath.

Gordon Henig, of Craignair Flats, Dalbeattie, had previously appeared in January and was fined £700 and was banned from the road for 17 months for driving with more than four times the legal limit on the Castle Douglas to Dalbeattie road on January 3.
His latest appearance was admitting a charge that happened a month before that in driving in the nearby High Street on December 4 with more than four times the permitted limit.
Dumfries Sheriff Court this week heard that 64-year-old Henig had gone into a local shop for a bottle of whisky at lunch time and smelled strongly of drink. Police were alerted when he got into a car and drove off.
He was traced to his home and breathalysed.
Sheriff Brian Mohan called for background reports and deferred sentence and a motion for the forfeiture of the car for a month.
