It followed the discovery of what was thought to be unexploded ordnance at a semi-detached house in Kirkennan Drive.
The discovery was made around 4 pm yesterday and emergency services later alerted near-by residents, with several being evacuated.
There were local reports that a suspected unexploded mortar bomb and grenade had been found.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team later travelled to the scene to examine and deal with the objects.
The Royal Logistic Corps bomb disposal team dealt with the ordnance using specialist equipment to examine the devices.
He said: “The ordnance was fully examined and found to be ‘inactive.’ It has been removed from the house and we have taken it away.”
A spokeswoman from Police Scotland told DnG24 that a cordon was in placed around the area and the near-by A710 — Port Road — remained closed until the explosive experts completed their work.
