Road measures call ahead of timber works
INCREASED TRAFFIC . . . five timber lorries will pass through the town each day throughout the extraction operation

TIMBER extraction from from Archbank Forest is set to commence at the end of the month.

Treeline Forestry will harvest six hectares of woodland north of Moffat until around mid-September.

Moffat Community Council said four to five lorries will drive through the town via Well Road, Burnside, A708 and then onto the motorway, via the A701 each day throughout the operation.

And it added that despite the local impact of previous timber extraction in the area in 2018 being “minimal”, the circumstances have now changed “with Moffat being busier than ever”.

The group has contacted Treeline Forestry ahead of the extraction to alert workers to ongoing traffic management concerns in the town, particularly regarding sections of road they will use.

Furthermore, they have requested to Dumfries and Galloway Council that “immediate measures” are put in place after a young boy was struck down by a car on Moffat High Street earlier this month.

The community council has insisted the measures remain in place throughout the entire period of timber extraction.
