Road repairs on track

MORE than 50,000 road defects in the region have been repaired so far this year.

The roads programme was given an extra £5.1 million this year to increase the workforce and buy new plant.

And officials say that they are on track to “fully expend” the excess by the end of March.

At present the scheme is 28 per cent complete and progressing well.

A report on the matter went before councillors last week. It said: “Key elements of the roads improvement programme have taken place: Work has commenced on the increased capital investment programme with a major expansion in pothole repairs through both traditional patching and spray injection patching methods, with over 50,000 roads defects repaired during this period.”

The report explains that two teams are working across Dumfries and Galloway on surface dressing and a new IT system is in place, and working well, for road condition inspections.
