OVERFLOWING . . . the bin at a lay-by on the B721

Lay-by bins, specifically ones along the B721 between Annan and Dornock, and opposite Eastriggs and Dornock Cemetery, are emptied every two weeks.

But recently they have quickly been vastly overflowing with bags of rubbish strewn on the ground nearby. Householders are suspected of leaving their excess waste there.

A council spokesman said: “The bins on the B721 between Annan and Dornock are emptied fortnightly through general waste uplift arrangements.

“However, it is recognised that the bins are being filled shortly after the scheduled uplift has been completed.

“The community safety team have contacted some local residents regarding household waste being incorrectly disposed of in these bins.

“The bins at the cemetery gates are for the use of visitors to the cemetery and are emptied by our refuse team during the general uplift for this location on a fortnightly basis.”
