Ross Hunt will be this year’s Cornet and the former Newington Primary School pupil is delighted to be in the role.
He said: “I’m quite excited. I’m 34, so I have seen quite a lot of the Riding of the Marches. This is a whole different side to the coin.”
His cousin, Olivia Schiller-Hughes, was Queen of the Border in 2021.
Ross works as a ground maintenance technician and tree surgeon for CBRE covering the whole of Dumfries and Galloway.
Standard Bearer elect is horsewoman Hilda McClanachan who has ridden in previous Marches days around the region.
Meanwhile, Hecklegirth Primary pupil Riley Simpson will represent the town as Mini Chieftain at this year’s Mini Highland games, while Nathan Sandford from Newington Primary will be the hole in the hedge boy.
And the vote for Cornet’s Lass will take place at The Anglers Function Room next Friday between 2-6 pm. Kirsty Cooper and Kayleigh Murray are both in for the role.
