THE organisers of a popular annual event in Annan are seeking permission to take over empty garages in the town.
Those in charge of Annan Riding of the Marches have submitted a request to Dumfries and Galloway Council to occupy two garages for storage purposes.
This matter will be raised at Annan Common Good sub committee next week where councillors will be asked to approve the handover of the garage keys.
A report, due to be tabled at the meeting next Wednesday, reads: “Annan Common Good has 13 garages available for rental purposes. Six of these are currently vacant and seven are actively let.
“There has been a request from Annan Riding of the Marches Annan for them to occupy two of the vacant garages for storage.
“Additional to the request to occupy they have also asked if a discount could be applied due to the nature and purpose of their organisation, being for the benefit of the Royal Burgh of Annan.
“Annan Common Good weekly garages costs are £9.34 (£11.20 including VAT). It is entirely at members’ digression to decide if this request is favourable and what the weekly charges would be should they wish to support the request.”
Meanwhile, the council officer who deals with the Annandale South ward and the council’s property and estate department are in negotiations with Galabank Caravan and Camping Club to produce a new lease “that is relevant to today’s needs”.
The details of the proposed new lease arrangement will be presented to Annan Common Good sub committee at a later date.
