THE Roman invasion of Southern Scotland will be the topic at a free archaeological evening in Eskdalemuir.
Dr John Reid will be the speaker at the Community Hub and Old School Cafe on Thursday November 16.
And he will be discussing the impact and legacy locally of the Romans, including asking why they came here, how long they stayed, and how locals reacted.
Mr Reid is the chairman of the Trimontium Trust in Melrose and has been a Roman history enthusiast since childhood. He has published and lectured widely on the Roman Iron Age and was involved in the groundbreaking archaeological investigations at Burnswark Hill near Middlebie.
Recent work has culminated in the complete refurbishment of the Trimontium Museum, Scotland’s only museum dedicated to the period of the Roman invasion, followed by the recent publication of his book “The Eagle and the Bear. A New History of Roman Scotland”.
Everyone is welcome, just turn up.
