A DUMFRIES man has decided to make a change for the allergy community within the region.
Ross Murray, who has a severe peanut allergy himself, has launched a social media page called The Allergy Map, which is a space for allergy-safe living.
The 31-year-old has a vision to grow a supportive community, launch a community-focused website, collaborate for change, and use technology to make life easier for people impacted by allergies.
Ross – who is a well-known former ice hockey player – said: “Back in my early 20s, I had this idea for a site that made living with food allergies easier — somewhere people could go to plan holidays, find safe places to eat when they’re away from home, and just feel less alone navigating it all. Over five per cent of UK adults (that’s more than two million people) live with a serious food allergy. And eight per cent of children.
“Deadly allergies are on the rise, and yet there’s still no central place online where people can get real help, share advice, and feel supported.
“That blows my mind. This might flop but maybe it’s the thing that’s been missing.
“And if it helps even a handful of people live a little easier, then it’s worth every bit of time and effort. Let’s see where this goes.
“Join the conversation, share your experiences, and help us build a world where everyone can breathe a little easier.”
The page was made just over a week ago and already has more than 500 followers.
Ross said: “I genuinely didn’t expect this. What started as an idea that lived in my head for years is now turning into something real.
“The likes, the shares, the comments, the messages—they’ve all been a reminder that this matters. That we need something like this. That we’re not alone in this fight.
“But I haven’t done this alone either. I want to say a massive thank you to the people behind the scenes—my family, close mates, and the legends who’ve been willing to help me with their time, support, and skills.”
