ANNAN and District Rotary have distributed all of the free potatoes grown during their Community Welfare Initiative over the last month.

Sponsored by Loreburn Housing Association, Caledonia Park Gretna, and Queensberry Bay Park, potatoes have been growing steadily for months and were distributed to charities over the last few weeks.

Annan Day Centre, Gretna Day Centre and Kate’s Kitchen and members of those clubs were given individual bags of locally grown potatoes for personal use.

Kate’s Kitchen were thrilled with the idea of free potatoes for their lunch club, and their weekly gardening club even grew more fresh potatoes for their members with equipment supplied by Annan and District Rotary Club.

Annan Day Centre was also given free potatoes for their pensioners lunch club, with bags of the veggies given to every member present.

A Rotary spokesperson said: “This is the perfect opportunity to commemorate the amount of hard work from all the local people, charities and businesses involved.

“This is the first year of our potato growing initiative and it has been a resounding success all around.

“Annan and District Rotary will be back early next year with many new locations, businesses, charities and schools involved with our potato growing initiative.”
