Royal burgh gets ready to rock this summer

FESTIVAL fans are bringing Lochmaben its first ever music festival - to ease the Wickerman gap.

May 29th will be a big day for royal burgh’s Crown Hotel when they host the town’s first ever music festival.

Six bands are set to ‘Rock the Loch’ next month thanks to publican Lorraine Carruthers and her festival organising team of Craig and Lynne Clark and Jo Blain.

Craig said: “We just thought that if Lockerbie can do it then why not Lochmaben?

“Wickerman has been cancelled this year, which is a huge blow to loads of people from the area, my family included, and we just thought this could help bridge the gap and give people something to smile about.”

He added: “We have decided to make it free as well so it’s something the town can really enjoy.”

Lorraine added: “This has been a long time coming. Every year our beer garden is packed on Lochmaben Gala Day and we always get a band in and the atmosphere is great.

“We’re also spoiled by how much space we’ve got here too and the beautiful view, it only makes sense to put it to good use.”

Music fans will be treated to the musical stylings of six local bands – Golden Ratio, huggy bear, Bogle Mufty, The Abstracts, Wired and Chasin The Train.

Food will also be on sale to help complete the festival atmosphere.

Lorraine and co are hopeful that Rock the Loch will be a huge success so they can build it on year-onyear.

This year the event is on a Sunday, but the team hope they could make it a Saturday in the future or even spread it over two days.

The festival is receiving sponsorship from Tenants and two T in the Park tickets are also set to be raffled off on the day. Tickets for the raffle are available from the pub.
