HRH Prince Charles could be on the guest list for the 2017 World Goldpanning Championships, which are to be held in the town this August.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town’s community council the prospect of inviting ‘community man’, the Prince of Wales, was raised by a member of the public, in the hope that Dumfries and Galloway Council would clean up the state of Moffat’s pothole riddled roads in the months before his visit.
The championships are expected to bring thousands to the popular tourist town when they kick off on August 1 and already hotels and B&Bs have reported they are booked up.
