Royal opening for region’s new hospital

PRINCESS Anne has given the region’s new £214 million hospital the royal seal of approval.

Today the Princess Royal arrived at the Garroch Loaning site under the cover of sunshine to open the new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

She was given a warm welcome and greeted by staff, dignitaries including the Minister for Mental Health, community representatives, and many of the people involved with the hospital’s design and build.

Then she was whisked off for a tour of the state-of-the-art building, where she was introduced to over 70 staff, taking her time to make staff from catering to surgical, feel like royalty themselves.
