TWO international nurses from NHS Dumfries and Galloway were guests at His Majesty The King’s 75th birthday reception.
Yafika Phiri, who is based in the community rehab ward at Mountainhall Treatment Centre in Dumfries, and Camille Ilagan, who works in the Acute Medical Unit at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, attended the celebration at Buckingham Palace on November 14, along with 400 internationally trained nurses and midwives from across the UK and senior nursing and NHS officers.
Both had the opportunity to shake the King’s hand and talk to the Duke of Gloucester about their experiences working in Dumfries and Galloway.
Yafika said: “Meeting the King and having a chance to mingle with other international nurses and hear of their experiences was the highlight of the day.
“I was over the moon to receive the invitation.”
Camille, above, added: “It’s been a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and the invitation was an honour to receive.
“Sharing the build up with my work colleagues and the Filipino community in Dumfries was just as special as the day itself.”
