Rugby rules broken

WIGTOWNSHIRE RFC mens 1st XV will play their rugby in West region Division Two for the forthcoming season after breaking Scottish Rugby competition rules.

The club have been hammered with a 20 point deduction after fielding four ineligible players in their final league game last season.

The sheer size of the deduction means the team have subsequently been relegated from West Division One.

A club statement said: “As some of you may be aware, we have been docked 20 points and unfortunately as a result been relegated to the West Two League for next season.

“Due to the extended season and injuries, we fielded four ineligible players in our last league game of the season and as a result of breaking the competition rules the SRU have deemed this as our punishment.

“As a club we have accepted this charge and are now planning for the new season ahead in West Two.

“We will be back and be stronger as a result of this. We look forward to welcoming travelling teams and all our loyal supporters back at London Road as soon as the season starts. We truly appreciate your continued support.”
