Sailing honour for John

A SUCCESSFUL 2015 sailing season at Lochmaben’s Castle Loch was reviewed at Annandale Sailing Club’s Annual General Meeting.

Commodore Stewart Mitchell reported the number of boats racing in 2015 was up on the previous year and the popularity of spring and summer courses had increased income from training activities over the past four years.
While several club members travelled widely to compete in national, and even international, events, the club hosted visitors from far and wide for various well supported open and class events.
A new initiative for 2015, the monthly, informal ‘social sail’ proved popular and is set to be repeated for the 2016 season which sees the club celebrate its Diamond Anniversary.
Long-serving club member John Hugo, from Johnstonebridge, was made an honorary member at the AGM.
Proposed by Stewart, the membership voted unanimously in favour of bestowing the honour on John.
Stewart said: “John is a true gentleman and has, for many years, selflessly dedicated his time, knowledge and wit to mentoring, training and advising both young and older club members.
“He served on the committee for several years and continues to advise us on a variety of subjects.”
