School return expected on Feb 22

YOUNGER nursery and school pupils are expected to be able to go back to school on February 22.

The First Minister revealed education staff are working towards a full time return for early learning and childcare and P1-3 children after the half term break.

There will also be a limited part-time return for senior secondary pupils to allow them to complete work for national qualifications.

It is provisional on covid numbers continuing to fall and will be fully confirmed at a government review in two weeks’ time.

Meanwhile, regular testing is planned twice weekly of all school and nursery staff, as well as of older secondary pupils.

Councillors are expected to discuss the move, and the local logistics, at a meeting of the education committee in Dumfries today.
