PARTNERING primary schools near Annan have started a fundraiser as they get set to host workshops with Cumbrian athlete Bethan Lishman early next year.
As part of the campaign, being run by Sports For Champions, Brydekirk and Hoddom Primary School will help Bethan raise funds for training, medical and competition costs, as well as money to spend on their own equipment and opportunities.
They are promoting health and wellbeing throughout the school for all year groups and staff.
Sports For Champions events are held in support of schools, which keep 60 per cent of the funds raised to spend on resources that will enrich young people’s education/experience.
Professional athletes in need of support are the only other beneficiaries from the remaining 40 per cent.
During the assembly in February, Bethan, who is a hammer thrower, and has competed at the Deaflympics for Team GB, will show off medals and tell her story.
She was born with partial hearing loss and as she has got older it has deteriorated.
Pupils will also benefit from physical activity through a fitness circuit, and a question and answer session.
Sports For Champions are asking parents to help make it a memorable event for the pupils by contributing to help reach the target.
