Scots curlers look good in Euro title defence

DEFENDING European curling champions Scotland have now moved into a clear lead at the top of this year’s men’s rankings.

Bruce Mouat’s rink have won six of their seven round robin matches in Lohja, Finland.

Scotland – who have the region’s Grant Hardie, Bobbie Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr in their side – suffered their only defeat in the extra-end against Italy.

But all their other matches have gone their way and they’re on course to a fourth consecutive European title and fifth overall.

Meanwhile, Scotland’s women’s side – which has Dumfries curler Sophie Jackson playing for them – are also close to qualifying to the semi finals but face one more group game against Norway.

The European Championships will conclude this weekend.
