Sean named athlete of the year!

WHEELCHAIR racer Sean Frame may have missed an important event last week but he was delighted to be named Scottish Disability Sports (SDS) athlete of the year.

The Newton Wamphray star was due to fly out to the BMV Berlin Marathon last week but disaster struck.

The car he was travelling in lost electricity on the way to the airport and by the time the vehicle was repaired his flight had already landed in Germany.

However, every cloud has a silver lining as by missing the event in Germany he was able to attend the SDS awards where he was awarded the Finlay Calder Trophy for athlete of the year.

Sean, who won silver at the Commonwealth Games, said: “I was gutted to miss the event in Germany because it’s a great personal best course.

“But I got re-invited to the SDS awards because my trip to Berlin went pear-shaped. I was awarded the Finlay Calder Trophy for athlete of the year, which is great.”

Sean is due to race in the London Marathon this Sunday.
