Body identified as missing Wamphray man

POLICE have confirmed that a body discovered near Moffat is that of missing Wamphray man Stephen Talbot.

Mr Talbot, 58, pictured above, was last seen at around 4 pm on Monday following a camping trip  near Garrogill, Moffat.

Moffat and Galloway Hill Rescue Teams were joined by Police Scotland’s Glasgow-based search and rescue team. The force helicopter also assisted in the search.

The operation was later extended to cover a wider area in and around Garrogill to the north of the Upper Annandale town.

Police Scotland said later: “The search for Stephen Talbot has been suspended after the discovery of the body of a man in the Garrogill area.”

A statement added: “The Procurator Fiscal has been notified. Police Scotland would like to thank everyone for their assistance in this matter.”
